I’m Rick. I offer mid-day dog walks while you work and TLC to cats and birds when you travel. I serve Decatur and most intown Atlanta neighborhoods.
Some about me: after an Air Force tour, I was a career IT dude for a number of years. I prospered and [mostly] enjoyed making technology work for people at established consulting firms and internet startups. My last few years were at Google, and as awesome as that was, the travel, frenzied pace, and always on expectation of corporate culture these days were wearing me down. And I missed my dogs. So … after some planning, I said bye to that and hello to this. That was almost four years ago, and I’m still loving it. Outdoors with dogs is way better than cubicles and cold server rooms. I used to hire pet care people, and now I am one. Life is oh so much better. Carpe vitam, right?
Now please read on to see how I can help you balance modern life with the needs of the animals who share your home. I share my home with dogs Bonnie and Crazy, cats Minnie and Lil Bit, and parrot Mimi Mercedes. You can be sure I understand the close bond you have with your cherished animals.
I want you to work or travel with peace of mind that the animals you love get tender attention, fun, and exercise they need to thrive. While I’m caring for them, their safety and the security of your home are paramount. House keys are labeled with pet names only, and I never wear clothing that would identify me as a service provider. With pupmup, you’re paying for a conscientious, loving caregiver for your animals. No auto-pilot, and I’m rigid about not overbooking myself.
While caring for your animals when you travel, I’m also responsible for your home. I’ll look after it as would a good neighbor, including tending plants, putting the trash out, getting mail and newspapers, and rotating lights and blinds—all to have your home appear lived-in and welcome you back just as you left it.
These are 30-40 minute walks, and I’ll often delight you with an email, cute photo or video, GPS link, quick text, or a map like this that shows route and duration. I always pick up you-know-what, dry bodies and clean feet, and wash and refill the water bowl, and before I leave, I make sure paws are in good shape and get myself a good dog hug. So, let’s meet. We can set up a regular schedule and also have me on standby for times when you’re held up at the office, want to stop off with friends, or stuck in bed with the sniffles. I expect short-notice calls, but we do have to meet first.

I promise to care for your kitty as my own. Though I realize cats are more independent, I usually insist on visiting at least once per day. I want to know sooner than later if something is wrong. Each visit is 30-40 minutes, and when I’m done cleaning and feeding, I’m on the floor or sofa inviting love. If kitty goes for it, fine, but even if she doesn’t, she knows I’m there to care for her and not just popping in to feed, scoop, spook, and leave, y’know?
Bills are emailed upon your return, due on receipt, pretty please, and payable by credit card, check, or cash.
I promise to care for your birdie as my own. I’ve gained experience caring for my Mimi, a sweet Sun Conure, and several bird clients, including finches, parakeets, love birds, chickens, ducks, an African Gray, and a Pionus. I must visit at least once per day, or more if your bird is as needy as my Mimi. Social birds need lots of daily interaction not to be stressed. Each visit is 30-40 minutes and includes cage cleaning, feeding, watering, socializing, and out-of-cage time if you wish.
